Just back from the refurbished Anchor Inn. Superb food, friendly staff, good atmosphere & nice garden area. Will definitely be returning soon.
No problem in recommending, either for food,a good pint or both!

We went to this pub for Sunday lunch.
It looks olde world and we thought we were in for a treat.
There was no atmosphere only two other diners were there. The radiators were switched off and it was freezing.
All in all we couldn't wait to leave.
How they are still in business I don't know. A horrible disappointing experience.

in the scenic village of canewdon nestles the archetypal olde worlde country pub-the anchor inn. i can recommend this lovely pub whole-heartedly, from it's mouthwatering food in huge portions, the excellent range of beers & ciders(some i've never heard of but are delicious all the same!) to the real secret of the anchor's charm & success: john & brenda. since this couple have taken over, this pub has improved beyond recognition, with such a welcoming & relaxed atmosphere which has to be experienced to be believed, my family & myself did not want to leave! it really is a step out of the urban rat race & a step into a rural haven. if anyone happens to be in the county of essex, pay a visit to the anchor, you will be very pleasantly surprised & it will not be your last i guarantee it!
